Youth Tour: The Trip of a Lifetime

Every June, Fannin sends two high school juniors to join as many as 1,500 other students from across the country to spend a week in the nation’s capital as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour

The submission deadline for the 2027 Youth Tour contest is Jan. 15, 2027.

From museums and memorials to the majestic U.S. Capitol and Supreme Court, there’s something for everyone in Washington, D.C. You’ll visit Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution and more. Activities include a Potomac River boat cruise with dinner and dancing, visits to congressional offices, and learning about rural electrification and electric cooperatives. Youth Tour is jam-packed with unforgettable sights and memories in the making.

FANNIN ELECTRIC 2027 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND CONTEST RULES

Eligibility Requirements

A contestant must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Have completed 10th Grade in high school by June 2027.
  • Parent(s)/guardian(s) must be members of Fannin EC and receive co-op service at their primary residence.
  • Must be available to travel June 15-23, 2027.

**Youth Tour contest winners who went on a previous trip are not eligible. The immediate family of co-op directors or employees are eligible.

Essay Topic

Tell the history of electric cooperatives.

Essay Format

  • Essays must be typed, double-spaced, in 12-point font and with 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • Essays should be at least 500 words long.
  • Essays must include a bibliography that contains all sources.
  • Do not include your name on any portion of the essay.
  • Essays will be judged on content, grammar, originality and creativity.

  • Entries must be submitted by January 16, 2026 at 11:59 pm

Finalist Selection

  • The top 2 contestants will be declared winners of the Youth Tour. They will be notified via email and mail.
  • 2 alternates will be chosen to attend in the event that one or more of the winners cannot attend the trip. They will be notified via email and mail.
